The ‘Friends’ of St Anne’s

Funds for St Anne’s Hospice are provided by a wonderful army of sponsors. Donors, supporters and groups of volunteers who put in a lot of effort to express their goodwill in tangible terms. Much of this goodwill has been generated for many by their experience of the dedication shown and delivered by the Sisters and Staff of the Hospice. However, major contributions were received much earlier, before the Hospice existed.

The friends of St Anne’s Hospice is one such Group - you might say we are the ‘Oldies’! Formed with six founder members putting in £5 each, we were active enough in the early 1990’s to hand over a cheque for £100,000 at the opening of St Anne’s Hospice in 1994, specifically to pay initial staff and running cost’s. Many of those early members are still active and able to contribute in various ways.

‘The Friends’ have contuned since those days to operate their group as a registered charity and through the past decade have consistantly averaged donations of £100,00 into St Anne’s each year. December 2010 celebrations our total donated to date into St Anne’s at £1,750,000. So we start 2011 with our target of £2 million.

We have been privileged to receive fantastic sponsorship for events over the years - Ascot and Cheltenham Race Days, Millenium Ball, Frank Carson, Kate Adie, Eric Knowles, Welsh Guards Band, etc. Others have loyally supported our various repeat BBQ’s, Fetes, Dances, Bazaars, Carol Services, Ladies Linches, Antiques Fair/ Auctions, Fashion Shows, etc. In addition, the backbone of our activities is teams of volunteers with their commitment on a regular basis to our shops at Pill, Cwmbran Centre, Risca Road Handpost, Malpas and our Hospice Coffee Shop.

We wish to hereby publicly thank them and all our generous donors of items for sale, without whom we would not exist. Your ongoing support for these outlets to fund St Anne’s Hospice is so appreciated and essential.

Readers may recognise some of our shop volunteers in accompanying photographs - but not all of them - because many work hard behind the scenes on the myriad of jobs that service the displays out front. Unfortunately we do not yet have a photo of our Handpost team to include herewith.

Our best Wishes for 2011 and THANK YOU. We hope you’ll join us as we proceed to our next target - £2 million

Note: Tickets for our BBQ Dance (£15) featuring ‘THE JAMES BOYS’ on Friday, 1st July, 2011 will be on sale in March of this year.

In recognition of reaching this superb milestone we are pleased to include this feature on our ‘Friends’ in the current edition of the St Anne’s Newsletter and on this Web Site.
