Welcome to St Anne’s Hospice
As we look forward to Springtime, leaving the chill of Winter behind us, I cannot help but reflect on a challenging but nevertheless successful 2009. Whilst faced with economic difficulties, the local community and our supporters remained steadfast. The fundraising team and the volunteers have bravely met the challenges through hard work and determination. The belief that their efforts really make a difference to people’s lives, is enough to drive them on.
We are still in our 15th anniversary year and whilst we celebrate the achievements
and the provision of care for our patients and their families throughout that time,
we must remember the continued support from the Sisters of St Joseph of Annecy. Their
vision, generosity and commitment has enabled St. Anne’s hospice to become a centre
of excellence for patients who need specialist palliative care.
It cost’s £1.3 million
to run the service for one year. We are grateful to the Welsh Assembly Government
and the
Aneurin Bevan Health Board for approximately one third of our funding. The
remainder is our challenge for 2010.
Thank you for supporting us and visiting St Anne’s Hospice web site. With best wishes for a happy and successful year.

St Anne’s Hospice
St. Anne’s Hospice is a fully registered Specialist Palliative Care Unit and the only provider of inpatient hospice beds in the county of Gwent.
Admission is available to anyone living within the 5 Gwent boroughs, who is coping with a life-limiting illness and requires assistance with sympton management.
Life-limiting illnesses may include cancer or non-cancer diagnoses eg. Multiple sclerosis, renal failure, motor neurone disease, end-stage respiratory diseases or end-stage cardiac failure.
Care is focusing on relieving any symptoms which may be interfering with quality of life whilst also seeking to rebalance all of the physical, psychological, emotional, social and spiritual aspects of a person’s life.
Care is provided by a Consultant-led Specialist Palliative Care team that aims to provide all patients with the best possible support and care in an atmosphere of peace and calm.
This skilled multi-professional team includes doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, social workers, occupational therapists, pastoral care team members, pharmacists, complementary therapists and volunteers.
Every patient is treated as an individual with respect and dignity. Every care is taken to listen and understand that which each person considers important to them and to ensure their wishes are incorporated into all decisions regarding management of their illness.
Referrals can be made through your general practitioner, consultant or the palliative care team in the community or local hospitals.
Admissions are on average 1 to 2 weeks and services are free to all patients.
Unfortunately we are not able to provide long term nursing care placements.
We are also currently running a pilot scheme to provide respite stays to patients with life-limiting non-cancer diagnoses and this includes patients from the Cwm Taff area.
